The record of the christmas shopping season – this year again – Private Business

HUI Research’s forecast for the holiday shopping season means that sales in the actual retail sales in december are expected to increase by 3.5 per cent, compared with december 2015, when measured in current prices.

results of a report before the christmas shopping season in 2016, which was announced on Tuesday.

“It will be another record for the holiday shopping season, despite strong comparative figures. This is thanks to the optimistic, affluent households,” says Michael Cronholm, head of consulting at HUI Research, at a presentation of the forecast.

What is also expected to contribute to sales growth in the year is a so-called arbetsgivarjul with few days off, something that usually lead to that fewer are choosing to locate in the festivities abroad.

the retail sector is expected to increase by 3.0%, while durable goods are assumed to increase by 4.0 per cent.

HUI Research’s forecast is a retail sale of a total of eur 77.7 billion in the year decemberhandel.

Heminredningshandeln is expected to be this year’s winner of the christmas with an increase of 6.0 per cent, followed by sports and fritidshandeln and guldsmedshandeln with +4 per cent each.

For e-trade, where december is an important month, predicted a sales growth of 16 per cent. The category is expected to increase its share of total trade, from 7 to 8 per cent in 2016. E-commerce, however, has not increased as much as HUI thought a few years ago.

“This is on the grounds that the category is highly price driven by to the consumer today are affluent,” says Andreas Svensson, senior consultant at HUI Research. When household purchasing power declines are expected e-commerce sales growth to accelerate, ” he adds.

E-commerce currently accounts for 12 per cent of the durable goods and a 1.5 per cent of the food retail sector.

We’ve talked a lot about sales, but how does it look for the margins in the physical trade?

“Many smaller merchants have it tough and december is a hugely important month to take again this year the spigot, but we make no projections for profitability,” says Michael Cronholm.
