Hackers show how easy it is to steal a Tesla – Aftonbladet

Tesla, the electric car which would take us into a zero carbon motorsamhälle, has been shown to be vulnerable to hacker attacks. With a fake open wi-fi, a promise of free burgers and a virus-the app shows the Norwegian IT company Promon AS how easy it is to take control of the car.

Teslabilarna comes with an app. With the app you can among other things turn on and off the car lights, open the doors and with lokaliseringsfunktionen you will find the car in the parking garage. But the same convenience can be used against you. It showed the two Norwegian hackers who with a few simple tricks in the Tesla app, find the car and then run away with it.
– It does not require all the world’s knowledge to get to it either, ” says Lars Lunde Birkeland at Promon AS, to Norwegian TV2.

By setting up a free open wi-fi next to a restaurant, and with it an offer of free burgers if you just download a third party application for your mobile phone, they show how easy it is to lose, or gain, control over the tesla.

the App you’re downloading is the so-called malware, seemingly quite innocent, but which takes control of your Tesla app and turn over control of the car to the hacker.

– Mobilfokuserade the hackers are more skilled than ever, and to exploit the lack of security in mobile applications is an increasingly lucrative source of income. Our test shows that an app that is not secure can lead to serious consequences, says Tom Lysemose Hansen, cto of Promon AS, to Norwegian TV2

Tesla Norway has seen the video of how the app has been hacked. But saying that there are errors on the app itself, but it is that the phone is hacked and then all of the applications in the exposed to a risk.

– This exposes the entire phone and all applications for a risk, including the Tesla app. We recommend that you hold your phone up to date with the latest version of the operating system. We have never heard of that someone has stolen a Tesla through the app, ” says Sandvold Roland, communications manager at Tesla Norway.
