Record loss for HTC – Vasterbotten Courier

The Taiwanese mobile phone manufacturer HTC reported a record loss in April-June and now intend to reduce both its workforce and scrap a number of mobile phone models.

The Company reports a loss of 8.0 billion Taiwanese dollars, corresponding to approximately SEK 2.2 billion, compared with profit of 2.26 billion in the corresponding period last year. Revenues fell to 33 billion Taiwan dollars.

The main reasons for the deterioration are lower demand for mobiles in the higher price segment and weak sales in China, according to HTC.

HTC has seen its market share shrink For a number of years and the company’s shares have halved in value since the beginning of the year.
