Today switches Swedish Trade and counterparty Commercial Employees’ Union demands for wage negotiations.

“A of our demands will be that starting salaries will be frozen for the next contract period. This is not lowered wages for a single employee in the trade. It does mean that we facilitate for all who are outside the labor market to get a foothold, “writes Karin Johansson.

She notes that in 2015 applied for over 160 000 people for asylum in Sweden. Many of them will get a residence permit and must find jobs, housing and learn Swedish. Some have training from their homeland, but many lack the education that is viable in the Swedish labor market.

Sweden already has considerable integration challenges. It takes too long for new arrivals to find work and differences in employment and unemployment between the native and foreign born are much too high, writes Karin Johansson. There are also a large number of young people who have difficulty entering the labor market and many who have been outside for a long time.

How do all of these to be able to get a job is a great challenge to the state, local government and all parties labor market have a collective responsibility to find solutions. When the answer can not be that currently make it more expensive and difficult to employ precisely those who have the hardest time getting a job, believes Karin Johansson.
