the Bar at the hotel – that goes in a blend of moorish and british style – is believed to have been the model for Rick’s bar in Hollywood-the film Casablanca with Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman.

the Hotel was built by a british aristocrat and opened in 1930. For decades it has been a haunt for celebrities and the affluent people. Among the guests over the years have been able to catch a glimpse of the krigsårens british prime minister Winston Churchill, the couturier Yves Saint Laurent and the actor Rita Hayworth.

Morocco’s ministry for tourism announced this week that it was deprived of two of its five stars, and that in particular the hygiene in the kitchen was substandard.
