China has since the country joined the WTO in 2001, has been stamped as a non-market economy. It has opened up anti-dumping measures on the basis of comparisons of China’s export prices with the price of the equivalent products from a third country.

But the clause, as the complaining WTO member states referred to in order to be able to do this expired on Sunday, according to China’s department of commerce, in a press release also notes that neither the U.S. nor the EU are in compliance with these regulations.

China has in particular been criticized with regard to state subsidies to the aluminium and steel industry.
