Therese Nordberg is a nurse in psychiatry in Stockholm will start working through agencies shortly. She is tired of being employed by the County Council.
– I work too much, I can not work like I do right now. Working shifts is the hardest of the nursing profession. It is also not a replacement for the worn one does and the responsibility that it means to be a nurse, says Nordberg.
Since several years back, the county councils and regions, high costs of renting the doctor and now they risk locking themselves into a dependence on hiring even nurses. Last year, nearly doubled the cost of the hired nurses to half a billion and during the period January to April, costs have risen by over 70 percent compared to last year’s first four months.
There are two obvious explanations development: one is that the need for nurses has increased in Sweden. The second is that staffing companies attracted over nurses with offers of higher salaries and greater opportunities to decide over their working hours.
– Now I leave and there will be only two permanent staff nurses remain where I work today. There will be five nurses but already it is for little people, says Nordberg.

Agneta Jöhnk, in charge of labor relations in Sweden’s municipalities and county councils, points out that the costs of hiring nurses is still small in relation to the county councils’ total payroll, but she is concerned about the development.
– On the whole, that the rental increase is not good, the risk is that the working environment is bad for the people working there and the safety of patients deteriorates says Jöhnk.
