The oil giant will pay $ 18.7 billion, corresponding to about SEK 158 billion, over a period of 18 years, according to the Financial Times.
The amount will BP pay US State 5 , $ 5 billion during the so-called Clean Water Act.
7.1 billion relates payment to five US states – Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas – Environmental damage and 4.9 billion in terms of compensation for legal costs to the provinces. Of the sum goes further $ 1 billion to a settlement with over 400 local authorities.
BP writes up the financial effect of the agreements with the $ 10 billion, from an estimated 43.8 billion at the end of the first quarter.
