BP will pay the US Supreme environmental fines – New Technology

       

US Department of Justice and the states of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Texas and Florida have sued BP for damage not covered by the amounts of oil giant previously paid, after oil disaster when the Deepwater Horizon exploded in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010.

Eleven people died and 4.2 million barrels of oil flowed into the sea during 87 days before the leak was sealed, claims US government.

BP to pay $ 18.7 billion, about SEK 150 billion, but may do it over a period of 18 years.

BP shares rose after the announcement. Previously fine of over $ 20 billion cited as possible.
