Persson: Borg ought to have been waiting period of one year – Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet

To the mighty Stenbeck sphere has long been interested in recruiting top politicians Göran Persson has experienced up close.

He has often spoken of his disappointment in 2002 when former ministerial colleague – and friend – Björn Rosengren was recruited as advisors by Kinnevik. That former Minister Rosengren, who was the architect of the IPO of Telia in 2000, soon after the transition wrote an article for the benefit of Tele2 angered Persson and is one of the reasons that he required a waiting period.

He think that today’s announcement that Anders Borg becomes Vice Chairman of Kinnevik raises the question:

– I’ve liked it before and I think it now. Not least for Anders Borg’s own sake. He is of course a lot of current knowledge and sensitive information. He has certainly mentally to handle yourself but others will try to discredit him. Then it would be good to have a waiting period.

So You Think’s background as finance minister will be used against him?

– Yes, he will few problems. No matter how he tramples he will become of suspicion. But it would have been solved better with a clear withdrawal period.

Goran Persson earlier floated on target when it comes to how long such a withdrawal period should be. But now he has decided:

– I think that such a withdrawal period should be one year.

About Persson line force would Borg thus not have been able to start working for Kinnevik until September 2015. But today there is no such formal withdrawal period for former ministers, although the Green Party aired interest in such a proposal. In recent years, a number of famous politicians enlisted by the industry, which you can see examples of this.

Mr Persson has previously raised the issue of the Constitutional Committee, but notes that the majority was not interested in such a proposal. He now hopes that the issue will get new energy by Anders Borg transition.

When asked about he was surprised Anders Borg’s new job, responding Persson:

– No, it was not. Stenbeck have earlier shown interest in such solicitations. And Kinnevik has never been known for being stingy with compensation, he says and continues:

– At the same time, was a part speculation that Anders Borg would return to politics in the context of the new elections. But now it ‘s quite obvious that he was beaten all such thoughts out of my mind.

Goran Persson itself made a spectacular transition from the political to the private sphere when he became advisor lobby firm JKL. But here he sees a difference from Borg and Rosengren.

– I started not at JKL until autumn 2007, so I had a voluntary waiting period, he has said in an earlier SVD interview.
