It does not restrict the public sector’s ability to find staff but it can limit the public sector’s ability to do a good business, says Clas Olsson, deputy director general of the Employment Service of recruitment difficulties.

For professional groups that the public sector are now struggling to find among doctors, specialist nurses, primary school teachers, special education teachers and dentists. Even the nurses have, for the first time in a long time, has become a scarce commodity in the labor market.

It is more difficult for construction workers. Sweden is currently undergoing a byggvåg in line with where the industry was at its peak in the 1990s, according to the Employment Service’s forecast boss Tord Strannefors. Yet the construction industry not started screaming for new people.

– It comes in very many foreign contractors and posted workers. This means that shortages will not increase so much in the construction sector. There may also be another serious consequence. Labour in industry continues to look like it is tough due to economic situation and especially the economic development in key export markets such as Germany. Nevertheless, there are in the industry shortage of certain specially trained professionals, such as CNC operators.

In the current situation, it is generally beneficial to have a vet, according Strannefors. Even engineer trained retains a good position in the labor market.
