Carlström: Fingerprint is my baby …

Fingerprint Cards major shareholder Johan Carlström think it is a good time to leave his employment as a business developer in the company. He will now devote himself to be a major shareholder in the company and begin to look at other investments. There he says to the News agency Directly.

Why do you stop now?
“It is good timing. I feel confident with our new ceo Christian Fredrikson. I have been involved in the recruitment process and have great confidence for the Christian and like him as a person. In addition, there is now a new board in place with a wider range of skills and experience,” he says.

Johan Carlström also explains that he has other commitments outside of Fingerprint Cards, which has taken more and more time and requires a major focus.

“I have a lot of other commitment, where I have been forced to say no to nearly 20 investment that I have not had the time. I have not done any external bolagsinvestering yet, but I will in the future look at some possibilities,” he says.

does it Change your perspective on your ownership in FPC?
“Absolutely not, I am a long-term principal owner of the Fingerprint Cards. So far, I have not found anyone better investment.”

How much do you own in Fingerprint Cards now?
“I am the principal owner of the Sunfloro which owns all the series A shares, then I own very many B-shares,” he says without wanting to indicate how the large holdings he has.

According to the service Holdings ägardata is Sunfloro as the owner of 6 million A shares, equivalent to 15.9 percent of the votes in the company.

Will you sell off some of your holdings now?
“Not what I have planned.”

do you Need to sell in FPC if you are stuck for one of the other investeringsförslagen?
“Not necessarily. I have other assets and access to financing.”

Johan Carlström has the same answer as Fingerprint Cards ceo Christian Fredrikson on why he ends up as a business developer in the company.

“I have absolutely not been fired. It is an agreement that I and FPC have met,” he says.

Why have you got a severance payment of 36 months ‘ salary, or 10.9 million sek?
“It may well be that I have been one of those who have been with the longest in the company. When I started at the company as ceo, we were twelve employees, including six pieces of work left in the day, with a market value of sek 68 million and now it has developed into a market value of just over sek 30 billion.”

just over a year ago, brought the serious fraud office prosecution against, among others, Johan Carlström for aggravated insider dealing. In the last week reported to the police in addition, the serious fraud office Johan Carlström for suspicion of slander, with reference to that he said, tweeting allegations that a prosecutor at the serious fraud office is guilty of a crime.

the upcoming trial led to a few discussions or comments from the company that it would be fitting that you retired now?
“a Few such discussions we have had. But it is my responsibility as an entrepreneur and innovators of the company Fingerprint Cards that when I make decisions to take into my decision making on what is best for the company, employees, customers, shareholders, my family and me. Fingerprint Cards is very much ‘my baby’ and I feel very strongly for the company’s welfare. I just want to company the best,” he says.

the Trial, which, among others, Johan Carlström has been indicted for aggravated insider dealing, starting on 24 april 2017.

“It is clear that preparations for the will to take parts of my time, but maybe more time next year”, says Johan Carlström.

He points out that he, independent of the trial, sooner or later, would have left his operational role in the FPC.

“Yes, it had only been a matter of time. I had not planned to remain in the company for a long time to come,” he says.

When you look at the FPC, what is the most important thing for the company in the next three years?
“continued to show strong growth in terms of sales and earnings. Defending a leading market position. But the market shares are so high now, in a segment that it long-term is very difficult to defend the current 70% to 80% (excluding Apple). After 2018 can be continued strong growth, mainly created in the new verticals. It is, therefore, the board has recruited Christian Fredrikson to execute this strong continued growth strategy.”

Which verticals are most important?
“It is mainly the cards that seem to take some momentum during 2017 and forward, and slightly later the automotive, IoT (connected things, ed) and medtech. There are also good growth opportunities in the future by addressing new product categories such as PCS, gaming consoles, cameras and remote controls,” says Johan Carlström.
