Zikasmittade mosquitoes found in Florida – Swedish YLE

The first mosquitoes have tested positive for zikaviruset in Miami in the State of Florida in the United States, according to local authorities.

The authorities had put out mosquito traps in various locations in Miami Beach. Zika-infected mosquitoes were found in three places, including in a botanical garden.

It has been reported about 49 cases where people have been infected by the mosquito-borne virus in Miami. The US authorities have therefore been aware that there are mosquitoes carrying zikasmittan in Florida, but this is the first time they have managed to capture infected mosquitoes.

– This means that there is a considerable amount zikasmittade mosquitoes in these populations, because it is difficult to find the virus in mosquitoes to traps, said William Schaffner, professor of infectious diseases at Vandebiltuniversitetet in Nashville, to Reuters.

the authorities have long worked to combat the spread of the virus, including by spraying.

Hurricane provides impetus for zikamyggorna

The situation may be exacerbated by Hurricane Hermine, who now sweeps across the state. Hurricane brings large amounts of rain, which is expected to lead to floods.

The authorities have declared a state of emergency and warning that hurricane is a severe setback in the fight against zikamyggorna.

– There will created all sorts of breeding sites for mosquitoes, says Schaffner told Reuters.
