Information: Lufthansa wants to buy SAS – Aftonbladet

The German airline Lufthansa wants to buy shares in SAS. It says sources have visibility into meetings that began last fall for the Reuters news agency.

Lufthansa has started talks with Brussels Airlines and Scandinavian Airlines, SAS, for to expand its low-cost platform Eurowings, according to Reuters.

Two anonymous sources said on Wednesday that the German airline has been in contact with the owners of the SAS since last fall. The talks could result in the Lufthansa takes a share of the Scandinavian company or included in any form partnerships or cooperation with SAS, owned jointly by Denmark, Norway and Sweden.

– We are a publicly traded company. Who owns the company is never something we comment, says Fredrik Henriksson, press officer at SAS.

People in the aviation industry says Reuters that it is not very likely that Lufthansa will take over SAS completely but to a share in SAS can result in a seat at the boardroom table and influence over the airline’s strategy.
