Czech companies want to buy Vattenfall’s lignite – Aftonbladet

The Czech company EPH is about to buy the wholly state-owned Vattenfall unprofitable lignite operations in Germany, according to Reuters.

– If and when Vattenfall presents a business, it will be a matter for government, we are not there now, says Minister Mikael Damberg (S).

But the V leader Jonas Sjöstedt, requires the government to stop the plans.

According to Reuters, one source, the deal will be signed next week. Two of the other sources indicate that Vattenfall’s board will give a final go-ahead for ten days.

The former Czech Coal stakeholders and Macquarie will have pulled out of the bidding. It is known that EPH interest in brown coal.

But the waterfall itself would not comment on the information.

– We leave no comments on current affairs. These are rumors and says we do not, says Lars-Åke Linander at Vattenfall’s press department, said.

When Vattenfall found a buyer, it is up to the owner, the Swedish government, to determine whether a business can implemented or not. According to Aftonbladet experience, however, has no such request from Vattenfall submitted to the Cabinet Office yet.



The Government will monitor the process

Enterprise and Mikael Damberg is responsible for state-owned companies in the government.

– we as owners will not comment on Vattenfall’s ongoing process, our view is that we can decide if and when a transaction is presented to us, and it has not done. Before that, there is nothing to comment, he said.

For Sale since September

Earlier, Greenpeace has expressed an interest in buying lignite operations. The aim was to dismantle the environmentally harmful coal power.

– We want to ensure that the German brown coal stays in the ground, said Annika Jacobson, director of Swedish Greenpeace, told Aftonbladet that time.
