Gavle offer millions of apple trees – Västerbotten Courier

Gävle municipality has made an offer of 6.3 million on a plot to rescue a century-old apple trees in Sofia Park in Gavle, reports local media.

for a number of years ago, the municipality sold the land to a private developer who planned to build seven semi-detached house on the plot, for 4.2 million. Once the building permit for the buildings had been challenged before it by individuals who wanted to save the unique sjustammiga tree. After several legal challenges, it was clear that everything had gone right and that it was free for landowners to fell the tree.

But now the municipality has changed his mind and wants to try to save the apple tree.

“the tree is worth preserving and we want to buy the land so that the land owner is compensated and is injury-free,” said Mayor Inger Källgren Sawela (M) in a press release on the municipal website.
