Waterfalls are looking for new mining permits

The energy giant Vattenfall – the government ordered to suspend its lignite expansion in Germany – are still working to obtain permits for new mines.

Swedish Dagbladet has taken part documentation confirming that the German part of the company is acting to bring the licensing process further when it comes to the open pit Nochten II. Vattenfall representatives, for example, with local politicians discussed the financial compensation for those forced to leave their homes as a result of the mine’s expansion.

But according to Vattenfall’s no decision that makes it possible to extend lignite operations.

We have not made any investment and some permitting processes are not clear, says Mikael Petrovic-Wågmark, nordic press manager at Vattenfall to SvD.
