Nokia’s earnings fell slightly – despite high an expectation – Hufvudstadsbladet

Nokia unveiled on Thursday its results for the first quarter. Operating profit was slightly worse than last year, but the map service Heres turnover has surprisingly increased by 25 percent.

Nokia’s comparable operating profit before non-recurring items fell to EUR 237 million In January-March. During the same period a year ago the result was 242 million euros.

The company’s turnover increased from 2.7 billion to 3.2 billion.

The operating profit of Nokia’s networks unit fell to a button third compared with last year’s first quarter. However improved mapping service Heres results significantly and sales increased by 25 percent compared with the year before.

Nokia outweigh its best to sell Here, but for now the company has not released new information about the sales plans.

Nokia CEO Rajeev Suri says in his statement that he is very pleased with the Here-map service performance. He thinks Here is a bright future, whatever it is Nokia or with a new owner.

Suri says that the positive result in the first quarter is explained by the excellent results the units Here and Nokia Technologies achieved. Nokia Networks profitability was a disappointment.

– I remain convinced that our operational model, a continuous effort to control costs and our strong portfolio enables Nokia Networks achieves the goals set for 2015, says Suri in the company’s earnings announcement.
