Soon, Volvo brand new three-cylinder engines – with 180 horsepower.

Volvo should be within the next few years to completely replace the current model range. First up is the new XC90 and soon after comes the important V90 wagon. Swedish Developed

The development of the motor takes place in Sweden and the will be built in Skövde next to the existing four-cylinder VEA engines that were introduced just over a year ago. Prototype Tests are already underway and the engine will be ready for series production within a few years.

The new engines will primarily take place in the next generation 60 Series (S60 / V60 / XC60) and 40-series also includes the new compact SUV XC40. And Volvo promises a lightweight and compact engine with class leading technology.

three-cylinder hybrid

Volvo believes that the gasoline-powered engine delivers up to 180 horsepower, but they also say that it is designed to support multiple applications. We interpret that in future we will see three-cylinder hybrid cars with similar technology in the new XC90 T8 Twin Engine.
